To rent a car in Dubai with Prox Rentals, tourists need a passport and a valid driving license. UAE residents need an Emirates ID (front and back) and a UAE driving license. You must be 23 or older.
This guide explains each document, the age rule and what to bring for the security hold. If you are not sure about your license, send us a photo and we will tell you.
Documents for Tourists and Visitors
If you are visiting Dubai, you rent with documents from your home country.
- Passport: your original passport, to confirm who you are.
- Driving license: a valid driving license.
You can drive on any license the RTA accepts on the day. You can also drive on an International Driving Permit together with your home license.
Which licenses the RTA accepts can change. If you are not sure about yours, send us a photo before you book, and we will tell you.
Documents for UAE Residents
Once you live in the UAE, you rent with your UAE documents.
- Emirates ID: front and back.
- UAE driving license: a valid license issued in the UAE.
Age Rules
The age rule is the same for every car in our fleet.
- Drivers aged 23 or older can rent.
- Drivers aged 20 to 22 need management approval.
- We do not rent to drivers under 20.
Want to add another driver? Additional drivers are approved by management before the rental.
What to Bring for the Security Hold
Daily and weekly rentals have a refundable security hold. It is AED 1,000 for UAE residents and AED 1,500 for tourists. The amount depends on you, not on the car.
- The hold is placed on a credit card. It is held by your bank, not charged.
- Debit cards are not accepted for the hold.
- You can leave a cash deposit instead of the card hold.
Monthly rentals have no deposit. After you return the car, the bank releases the hold in about 15 working days, on its own timing.
How Your Documents Are Checked
Our website never asks you to upload identity documents or card details. Prox staff check your documents at handover.
Card holds are made on our own card terminal. We do not keep your card details.
