To choose a car rental company in Dubai, check what you will really pay and what you sign up to. Look at the rate with VAT, the deposit, the mileage, Salik, fines, insurance and delivery. A good company explains every cost before you book.
Below are ten things to check. For each one, we show how Prox Rentals handles it, so you have a clear example to compare against.
1. Is the Rate Shown With VAT Beside It?
Ask whether the price includes VAT or not. A rate without the VAT note can look lower than it is.
At Prox Rentals, every rate excludes VAT, and we show “+ 5% VAT” beside it. Our rates start from AED 99 a day + 5% VAT.
2. How Much Is the Security Deposit, and When Does It Come Back?
Ask for the exact amount, how it is taken and when it is released.
For daily and weekly rentals, we place a refundable security hold. It is AED 1,000 for UAE residents and AED 1,500 for tourists. There is no deposit for monthly rentals.
The hold goes on a credit card, or you can leave a cash deposit instead. Debit cards are not accepted. The bank releases the hold about 15 working days after you return the car.
3. How Many Kilometers Are Included?
Every rental has a mileage allowance. Ask what it is and what each extra kilometer costs.
- Economy cars: 250 km a day, AED 1.85 per extra km.
- Luxury cars: 200 km a day, AED 4.85 per extra km.
- Weekly rentals: 1,400 km a week. Monthly rentals: up to 4,000 km a month.
4. How Is Salik Charged?
Salik is Dubai’s electronic road toll. Every rental car has a tag, so ask how crossings appear on your bill.
Salik is charged at the current RTA rate for each crossing, with nothing added. No admin fee.
5. How Are Traffic Fines Handled?
Some companies add a fee on top of each fine. Ask before you book.
Traffic fines: billed at actual amount. No markup, no admin fee. No black points on your license.
6. What Does the Insurance Cover?
Ask what happens after an accident, and what you would pay.
All our cars are fully insured. If the police report shows the accident was not your fault, you pay nothing towards it. If it is your fault, you pay an excess based on the car. Our team confirms the excess for your car before you book.
We also offer 24/7 roadside assistance with a replacement car.
7. Is Delivery Free, and How Fast Is It?
Delivery fees can add up. Ask whether delivery costs extra and whether it needs a minimum rental.
Delivery is free anywhere in Dubai, with no minimum rental, and we deliver within 20 minutes.
8. What Documents and Age Do You Need?
Check the rules before you arrive, so the handover is quick.
- Tourists: passport and a valid driving license.
- UAE residents: Emirates ID (front and back) and a UAE driving license.
- Age: 23 or older. Drivers aged 20 to 22 need management approval.

9. Are the Photos of Real Cars?

10. Can You Talk to a Person?
Check who answers when you call, and whether bookings are confirmed by a person.
